We give hereunder the highlights of Luxmi Self Help Group , village Dharmour in Kheel Panchayat which attained the height of success in short time and set an example of hardworking & entrepreneurship in the area.
The SHG was formed on 10th November, 2002 on the instance of Branch Manager, Branch Office, Churag. The Group consists of 11 male unemployed members Shri S.H. Bhardwaj is president and Sh. Khem Raj secretary of the SHG. Each group member is contributing Rs.100/- per month and is having Saving Bank account with our BO: Churag.
Some of the SHG members were earlier engaged in traditional agricultural activities and were growing Wheat, Maize and paddy whereas some other were doing labourer work in nearby towns and their position was hand to mouth. The villagers were leaving under poverty line and were depend upon the local money lender for their social obligations who were looting them with both hands.
On being linked with the bank the bank changed the life style of SHG members and their families. The bank financed the group for Rs.50,000/- in first instance and insisted them to grow seasonal vegetables. Accordingly, the members started growing seasonal vegetables and sold their produce even in Delhi resultantly SHG members could earn good income.of 2000/- to 3000/- every month . The members were later on issued Kisan Credit Card also for their domestic needs.
In the 2nd phase, the SHG members decided to undertake the business of milk supply from the local area to shimla. For this purpose they decided to take loan for purchase of Small vehicle. The Branch Manager, keeping in view the good performance of the earlier account , sanctioned a transport loan of Rs.3,72,000/- for purchase of Mahindra Pick Up vehicle which was proved another mile stone in the way of their progress.
Thereafter, The SHG members received training on wormi compost, paneer making, mushsroom cultivation, British vegetable cultivation and rain water harvesting from Agri University Palampur and Horti University , Solan. The members are now utilizing scientific methods in their own fileds and producing good harvests and marketable surplus and are growing by leaps and bounds, earning good income and living a independent and standard life.
